Elz\u00e9ard Bouffier, a fictional character and solitary shepherd, is the protagonist of this novel, who takes on the task of reforesting a deserted village that was once teeming with life.<\/p>\n\n

Faced with the desolation of this barren land, Elz\u00e9ard sets out on a mission to bring life back by planting acorns wherever he goes.<\/p>\n\n

The interesting parallel drawn in this book turns out to be a true story, since in the 1920s, the landscape of the Pre-Alps was rocky and treeless.<\/p>\n\n

The simplicity and beauty of Elz\u00e9ard Bouffier\u2019s actions have served as an inspiration for raising awareness about forest conservation.<\/p>\n\n

Between 1989 and 1993, more than 3,700 children from the Dr\u00f4me region contributed to the reforestation of the Ch\u00e2tillon region.<\/p>\n\n

With guidance from the Dr\u00f4me Department and the National Forest Service, the Giono Forest is now a must-see hiking destination.<\/p>\n\n
